Description
Dagestan, a region of the North Caucasus, has a long and rich history of carpet and kilim weaving. Constructed from 100% naturally dyed sheep wool, weavers of Dagestan rugs use the Soumak technique of flat weaving (often referred to as warp wrapping) in which the design elements are created by weft threads being wrapped back and forth around the warp threads to create detailed patterns and shapes. In this beautiful kilim, the primary base colour is cream and is decorated by large, geometric and stylised floral motifs in apricot/pink, mauv/purple, light blue, dark blue and and beige / cream. Please refer to the detailed photographs for a more accurate depiction of the weaving, colours and motifs used in this piece.
